When families come to piano lessons at the same time, one or more of them need to wait. Many times they bring their own entertainment or homework to do while they wait. Why not entice them with a toy they love and add a learning twist? I have duplos and legos with rhythms written all over them. Each dot on the lego is equal to one beat, so the notes and rests are written accordingly. It is likely that students are just building, without practicing the rhythms as they go. There are a few who deviate from that and compose with the blocks. Some of my students even challenge me to perform their compositions. Rhythm legos and duplos (for the younger students) have proven to entertain and provide a learning tool in my studio. |
